He gave his occupation as Labourer and his next of kin his mother Mrs Hannah Williams of Upper Eungai, Macleay River, NSW. He was part of the North Coast Route March. On Stanley's Roll of Honour Card his mother gave his calling as Surveyor's Assistant and his school as Picton. Stanley served in the 36th Battalion A.I.F. He departed Sydney on the 'Beltana' 13 May 1916 and arrived France via England November 1916. He was wounded in action (bullet wound left shoulder) France 9 June 1917. He was reported missing in action and then prisoner of war in German hands April 1918. Private Stanley Esdras WILLIAMS died 1 May 1918 from diarrhoea and gastric cattarrh while a prisoner of war at Friedrichsfeld Camp, Bazeilles France age 33. |
